Although travel time is two and half to three hours, pass through traditional villages and countryside. Black Man Statue Roundabout: First stop on arrival is at the famous ‘Black Man Statue’ roundabout or locally known as ‘Ta Dumbong Kva Nhoung Shrine’ in the centre of Battambang. Learn the legend behind this Black Man and his Magic Stick. Killing Field: Second stop, just 4kms to the north is Wat Somrong Knong Killing Field where it is estimated that around ten thousand people were executed in the Temple Grounds by Khmer Rouge. Bamboo Train, Hanging Suspension Bridge, Peace Gallery: A Bamboo Train ride and a walk across the Hanging Suspension Bridge makes for a lighter part of the day before visiting The Peace Gallery. The Gallery is a space for reflection and learning about Cambodia’s journey from war towards peace and reconciliation, presenting the country’s complicated history while celebrating the work of Cambodian peacebuilders. Enjoy a well deserved Lunch break. Phnom Sampov Lookout, and Killing Caves: The sixth stop for the day is Phnom Sampov, or Mount Sampov. This hilltop area is worth a wander around to take in the impressive views of the countryside and city from the top, the temple complex and the numerous monkeys. Close by is one of the infamous Khmer Rouge Killing Caves, which is the next stop. Take the steps down into the cave and pay tribute at the monument that is in the cave with bony remains of some carefully preserved. Bat Cave.
